My Second is also a boy. He is 4 we will call him Bat. At the age of 2 he was still not talking, he had 3 word in his vocabulary; "Dad" "ulk mash" That was it. He also almost completely stopped eating he went from eating everything, to eating 4 foods and they had to be a particular brand. We then got him diagnosed with autism. He was dead center on the autism spectrum stage 2. He got diagnosed with SPD at the same time.
The DSM-5 notes those with level 2 autism require substantial support. The symptoms associated with this level include a more severe lack of both verbal and nonverbal communication skills. This often makes daily activities difficult.
Sensory Processing Disorder or SPD (originally called Sensory Integration Dysfunction) is a neurological disorder in which the sensory information that the individual perceives results in abnormal responses.
